TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is a versatile elastomer that combines the properties of rubber and plastic. It offers excellent elasticity, abrasion resistance, impact strength, and chemical resistance, along with good transparency and flexibility across a wide temperature range.

TPU is widely used in automotive parts, cables, footwear, films, hoses, seals, and 3D printing. It is available in a broad range of hardness levels and can be processed by injection molding, extrusion, and additive manufacturing.

Thanks to its durability, flexibility, and weatherability, TPU is ideal for both rigid and soft-touch applications where performance and appearance are equally important.
 

By Chemical Structure (Based on Soft Segment Type):

a. Polyester-based TPU

• Made with polyester polyols

• Excellent mechanical strength and abrasion resistance

• Good oil and chemical resistance

• More sensitive to hydrolysis (less suitable for humid/wet environments)

• Applications: Industrial belts, wheels, footwear soles, automotive parts

b. Polyether-based TPU

• Made with polyether polyols

• Superior hydrolysis resistance, good flexibility at low temperatures

• Lower mechanical strength than polyester-based TPU

• Applications: Cables, hoses, medical tubing, underwater or humid environment products

c. Polycaprolactone-based TPU (Less common)

• Combines the toughness of polyester with better hydrolysis resistance

• Applications: Specialty products, some biomedical uses
